This list covers Frankish Cyprus from Guy de Lusignan’s purchase of the island from Richard Coeur de Lion until the last Lusignan Queen sold it to Venice. A classic feudal system was set up with fiefs for knights and mailed turcopole horse archers. Infantry were a mixture of Frankish settlers, local Greeks, Lebanese Maronite and Armenian archers, and later Catalan and Bulgar mercenaries. The Knights Hospitaller of St John moved to the island after the fall of Acre in 1291 and even after they moved their headquarters to Rhodes in 1310 retained a presence until at least 1426. A partial Genoese occupation 1373-1464 is covered in IV /61. Reference: Armies of the Middle Ages Vol 2 1. Heath.
