This list covers the armies of the Islamic Spanish states of Murcia (founded when its governor revolted against the Almohades in 1228 and lasting until he was murdered by a subordinate in 1238), then Granada (founded in 1232) which inherited its power; and lasted because, although small, it was rich, densely populated, had mountainous borders and had inhabitants cunning, resourceful, brave and better organised than the Christian Spanish. Nearly every peasant was said to own a crossbow. References: Armies of Feudal Europe I. Heath, Armies of the Middle Ages Vol 11. Heath.
