This list covers the Byzantine armies of southern Greece from their first regaining a foothold from the Romanian Franks until the Ottoman conquest. After 1349, it represents the semi-independent Despotate of the Morea, which continued to field substantial armies after the rest of the empire had shrunk to a 20-mile radius around Constantinople. The bulk of the army consisted of pronoia cavalry and peasant infantry. References: Armies and Enemies of the Crusades 1. Heath, Armies of the Middle Ages Vol 2 1. Heath The Late Byzantine Army M.C.
