The Irag-based Jalayirids split off from the Ilkhanids after the deaths of Abu Sa’id and Arpa Ke’un. They were conquered by Timur, but re-established themselves in 1405 before being eliminated by the Black Sheep Turks in 1432, which then controlled Iraq until destroyed and replaced in turn by the White Sheep Turks in 1467. Jalayirid armies depended heavily on ghulam slave heavy cavalry, who were considered more reliable than the regime’s own Mongol tribesmen. Reference: Armies of the Middle Ages Vol 2 1. Heath.
