I/57 ETRUSCAN LEAGUE 600 BC - 280 BC

This list covers Etruscan armies from the founding of the Etruscan League until subjection by Rome. The army may still have had a core of armoured Greek-style hoplites, now supplemented by a larger number of spearmen without body armour but carrying a large oval shield (the scutum). Special units of armoured men with two-handed axes may perhaps have been used to break through an enemy line. References: Armies of the Macedonian and Punic Wars D. Head, Gli Eserciti Etruschi I.
